Question: Please help me understand my eye perscription!.!.!.!?
I went to the eye doctor today and was told that i have severe Astigmatism and i am suffering from Amblyopia in my right eye!. I received my perscription and i just want to know what it means!. I want to know if my eyesight is really bad and also what is the eye perscription for "healthy" eyes!. This way i can compare because everytime i hand my perscription to someone, they are like "whoa, thats bad" so i dont want to be left in the loop not knowing how to read my own perscription!

Answers:
I am an optician and the first numbers (+4!.00 and -0!.25) are your distance correction and you are very farsighted!. the second set of numbers are for astigmatism correction and yes you do have a lot of correction!. And yes it is spelled with an A!!!! Astigmatism is an optical defect, whereby vision is blurred due to the inability of the optics of the eye to focus a point object into a sharp focused image on the retina!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

try google it will probably give you more info then we can offer!. also it is stigmatism without an a!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

Don't really know what more you want to know in addition to what your doctor told you!. It is unrealistic to expect to really understand your prescription or anyone else's without taking a course in optics!.

Both eyes have severe astigmatism!. The right eye prescription is the kind that is often associated with amblyopia, so that is likely correct but it is impossible to tell if you have amblyopia without personally examining your eyes!. Can't know if your eyes are bad without knowing what your vision with glasses is!.

As to comparing to other people, there is little point to that!. Your unaided acuity in the left, non amblyopic eye is likely about the same as someone who is -2!.50 simple myopia if that helps!.

There is no such thing as a prescription for "healthy" eyes!. Needing glasses has no relation to eye health!. Totally healthy eyes may need very strong glasses, totally unhealthy eyes may not need glasses at all!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
