Hyperopia presecription error?!

Question: Hyperopia presecription error!?
My dad has mild hyperopia!.
His distance diopter is +1!.75, reading +2!.25 and some mild cylinder!.
Both left and right eye presriptions are similar!.
He's been using progressive lenses for 8+ yrs now!.

Going for an eye exam he wanted to get new glasses!.
The new prescription increased his distance to about +2!.75 for both eyes!.
Trying out the new prescription on a new frame, his far distance sight (>100ft) is now blurred!. He can no longer drive safely!.

The optometrist doesn't seem to know what's wrong!. The new lenses checks out ok exactly like prescribed and using the new pair of glasses, my dad gets 20/30 on the eye exam, but far distance vision for 100+ feet is still very blurry!.

Using his old glasses (+1!.75 far distance) is better than the new glasses (+2!.75 far distance), but medium distance (2-3 ft) is better with the new glasses!.

What to do!? Advice!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
I was watching this question hoping for a good answer because I have the same results from eye exams!. Eye exams have been resulting in a correction that's too strong for long distance sight all my life!. Fortunately, for the last 7 years I have been able to find eye doctors that have the patience to fit my glasses quite well!. Some techniques they have used are as follows: After the initial exam, trial glasses with changeable lenses were used in the lobby area while looking outside at a street sign or other distant object and adding minus to the exam result lense until I have clear distance!. Another doctor loaned me several trial lenses of various minus strengths (-!.25, -!.50, -!.75) to hold over the glasses on distant road signs on my own to see how much reduction was needed!. And I did have one doctor that was able to fit me correctly by just using the exam only!. This was after his partner initially examined me and came up with a correction that was a full diopter stronger!. When I question him on how he was able to get such a good correction for me that his partner was not he didn't really explain how except to say that "Well, your eyes only like the minimum amount of correction"!. I should mention that the reason for having so many different eye doctors recently is that I have moved 5 times in the last 8 years!. At my recent exam the result from the autorefractor and regular eye exam resulted in a correction of OD +1!.25 X -1!.50 @75 axis and OS +1!.50 X -!.75 @ 81 axis!. The lense that gives me the best driving distance comfort is OD +!.50 X -1!.00 @ 75 axis and OS +!.75 X -!.25 @ 81 axis!. You can see that, at least for me, the ratio between the plus correction and astigmatism correction is not exact!. Just a couple more bits of info that may or may not apply to your father is that I had lasik surgery for farsightedness 7 years ago!. At that time I was +4!.50!. Prior to lasik regular eye exams seemed to be from !.25 to !.50 diopter too strong for comfortable road and street sign reading!. After lasik the amount of over correction from a regular exam went to about !.75 to 1!.0 too strong from a standard exam!. Hope this helps, at least you know that the regular exam using the 20 ft!. distance doesn't work for everyone!. If you can clear up distant sight by pushing your glasses againt your face, in effect shortening the distance between your eye and the lense, your glasses are too strong!. If distant objects get clearer by pulling your glasses away from your face your glasses are too weak!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

you should ask them to make sure they are fitted correctly and aren't too high on his nose!. you could also ask another optical to check the glasses with the Rx to make sure they are correct!. another thing to check is the material and type of progressive they sold to him!. are they the same or drastically different!? if they are different, it may not be the Rx he is not adapting to!. if all else fails, get a second opinion!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

It sounds like the new rx is a little too strong for distance!.

Other possible problems could be placement/position of the new
progressives, or a change in progressive style different than the one he got used to!.

More than likely, too strong though!.

He needs a re-check or a second opinion!.

Sounds like he is overcorrected!. I would ask them to repeat the exam!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
