Answers:
This cataract cases takes about 10 to 15 minutes to complete!. Only topical anaesthesia (numbing eye drop) is needed!.Some level of discomfort but not excessible pain under good hands!. Age is not a factor, and neither is asthma!. Consult a reputable surgeon for a face to face advice!.

Thank you!.

They will only do one eye at a time, once the vision is better in that eye they will do the second eye!.

It is usually done under local anaesthetic but you cannot see out of the eye that is being operated on!. Because it is done under local anaesthetic you go in and out the same day!. The operation takes about an hour or so and you are at home the same day, it really is much better than it was a few years ago!. They can use sedation if someone is particularly anxious!.

His prescription before the surgery will affect the surgeons choice as to whether to leave him with a similar prescription or try to get him back to zero prescription for distance!. But after a couple of days he will be able to take the protective patch off and be able to see reasonable well!. As the swelling goes down his vision will change slightly!. We normally say you can have an eye examination 6 weeks after the surgery, in a lot of cases you will only need reading glasses afterwards!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

well he should really be asking the surgeon to make him feel at ease especially since every ones recovery time varies!.

first of all believe me he is gonna be happy he can't see whats going on cuz if he did he may not want to go through with it!. why in gods name would he want to see them with needles and knifes and whatever!.

his eye will be inmoblized and numbed so he won't feel anything!.

and they won't do both eyes at the same time so he will be able to see out of the eye that isn't being operated on so he will be able to get around after the operation!.
i'm not sure if he is going to be sedated or knocked out completely but i prefer general anesthesia to sedation cuz you feel like they just told you to close your eyes and now they are telling you to wake up!.
if he wants the time to fly by thats the way to go!.
where as sedation you fall asleep for a few minutes and wake up wanting to move around but can't and this happens like a million times throughout the surgery of falling asleep for maybe 3-4 minutes then waking up and thinking is it almost over!.

and how long the surgery is depends on the type!. if its ultrasound waves that break up the cataract then a new lens is put in it can take as little as 10-15 minutes for skilled doctors!.
if the lens is physically being removed and not just broken down then a new lens is put in it will take more like 30-45 minutes!.

and the recovery time will vary but most people recover with in 7 days!.

tell him that a 22 year old that has had cataract surgery in one eye and now needs it in the other said that there is nothing to worry about!.

and i'll be praying for him!.

An elderly woman I know had both eye done on the National Health!. There were no problems at all and she was fine after a few hours!. There was about a two month wait between each eye oporation!.
Her eyes are near perfect now!.
I paid for my son (aged 27) for both eyes to be corrected (he wants to join the police)!. It took about a morning for the work to be done and cost
