I have worked in the Optical field!. First lets break it down!.!.!.lots of kids these days are wanting contacts because either a friend has them or they look cool because they come in a variety of colors!. But, having contact lenses is ALOT of repsonsibility!. Usually, we dont recommend anyone under the age of 14 to have contact lenses!. They are alot of care and work, and if not done properly, can cause eye infections and even blindness!.

Now, if you still think you're ready for contacts, try asking your mom again and ask your eye doctor if there is a way for you to " try " them out for a week or two!. If you can show your mom that you are responsible enough for them!. She should have no problem!. But just remember that they are alot of work!.

okay, but let me tell you why your mom is right:

- you're comparing to a 13 year old, so probably you're a teenager!. teenagers eyes are not fully developed until 21-ish, so by wearing contacts you will damage/tamper with your eyes' growth!. thats why kids can't have laser eye surgery!.

- wearing contacts (especially replacing glasses instead of wearing them occasionally) will damage your eyesight even further!. disposable contacts have rougher edges and are usually jelly-ish -- difficult to put on, while the non disposable lenses if not properly look/sought after can cause infections!. that's probably what happened to your mom's friend's daughter!.

- i know it looks better without glasses, same story to me!. a year ago i sent my glasses in for repairs!. they said it'll be done by the end of the day!. but that meant that i must walk around blind for a whole day -- they offered me a pair of disposable contacts, and i tried them on -- first of all it's fricken scary to put them on -- like you're touching your eyes!. i didnt manage to put them on -- they kept breaking and eventually i gave up!. one friend of mine was running around with them, and they somehow slid off position (to the top of his eyeball), and it was painful to get it back out!.

- there's a lot of complications wearing them!. so i suggest what you do is if you really want contact lenses, wait until you're fully grown up, and at the meantime wear frameless glasses with thin ear-hook-thingies to minimise the look of glasses!. you can also go try out a pair of disposable contacts (2-week disposables) and see how it actually feels and get to know the whole process (of putting it on, taking it off, cleaning them etc) better!.

at the end of the day, it's your own eyes!. even if you got contact lenses you'll definitely look better, but they're not good for your eyes especially teenagers!. if i were a contacts salesman i'd say yeah, go ahead, but hey, think about it again!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
