Answers:
Not at all--I had it at 60!. As my ophthalmologist pointed out, "We ALL get cataracts, sooner or later!. We're just living longer, that's all!." Seems reasonable--who heard of ALZHEIMER'S 25 years ago!? The surgery is absurdly simple and painless, and lasts about 15 min!. per eye!. I need reading glasses (which are NOT Coke bottles), but my distance vision is 20-20!. After one day it seemed as it had never happened!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The average age to have cataracts done is about 70, but it's dropping as the surgery gets easier!. But there's a wide, wide scatter on age of incidence!.

Even with no known precipitating factor: illness, trauma, medication, radiation, it's quite possible to have a cataract develop at your age!.

If there's a definite cataract, there's little point in waiting till it's really severe before having surgery!. There is no requirement with modern surgery for the cataract to be "ripe", which used to be the case!.

You will have choices to make as to what sort of implant lenses to opt for!.
That may be worth a separate question, later on!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes you may be a little young!. Do not let the doctor talk you into surgery!. You only need to proceed for surgery ONLY if your lifestyle is being affected by your vision!.Most people have mild cataract which does not need any surgery at all!.

I work for an ophthalmologist who specializes in cataract surgery!. 55 is not a young age to develop cataracts!. I've seen people anywhere from 30 to 85!. The average age is around 60!. Cataract surgery is a very quick, painless out-patient procedure and there is little to no recovery time!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

No, cataracts can effect young people too!. Young children in North Korea are vulnerable to it (i recently watched a documentary about it) and maybe in developing countries too!.

But, cataracts does effect more people who are older!. And a friend of mine who is 40 has had cataracts too!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

No, cataract development has more to do with sun exposure/radiation then age!. Get the surgery, it's fast, painless, and your vision will be fantastic!. My mom just had it!Www@Answer-Health@Com
