Plastic Frames with Hi-Index ?!

Question: Plastic Frames with Hi-Index !?
So I'm going to get new glasses!.!.!.these in particular: http://mi!.oakley!.com/images/catalog/gene!.!.!.
They are plastic frames!. My prescription is -4!.25 (Right) and -4!.00 (Left)!. Do you think just polycarbonate is sufficient or should I get a high-index lens!? I don't think the thickness would show with polycarbonate since the frame pretty much covers it!? no!? Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Your correct!. With your Rx, the center thickness will be minimal while the outer edges will be thicker!. So going with a plastic frame would be an excellent choice, depending on the size of the frame!. The larger the frame, the more lens over hang there will be!. Most of the overhang should be hidden on the inside though!.

Polycarbonate is a different type of material than High-Index!. It's impact resistant and about 30% thinner & flatter than basic plastic (CR-39) and much lighter in weight!. High-Index lenses are a basic plastic that is ground thinner and flatter!. Depending on the index of refraction, high-index lenses are about 40-50% thinner and flatter than basic plastic lenses!. They come in 1!.60, 1!.67, and 1!.70 (1!.70 being the thinnest)!. Now just because they're thinner, doesn't necessarily mean they will be lighter than polycarbonate!. You will not see a relevant difference, in these two types of lenses, until your Rx reaches about +/- 4!.00 or higher!. So making your decision will be based on if you want a light weight pair of eyewear, or if you want the thinnest for cosmetic reasons!. Both lenses are now made aspherically (flatter), so you will not have the distortion that you used to get with polycarbonate many years ago!. My opinion!? If this is going to be your main pair of eyeglasses, I would definitely go with high-index for cosmetics!. This will reduce the appearance of minification of your eyes!. I would also get anti-reflective treatment to take away the reflective surface as well!. If there will be a lot of lens over hang, you may want to have the edges rolled & polished for cosmetics too!. This will also take away the "chalky" effect from the front of the frame outline!. Good luck & nice choice of frame! Www@Answer-Health@Com

i would go for the hi index lens in those frames as they will more then likely come with an anti reflection coating as standard and add to the overall finish of the oakley!.Polycarb lenses are a safety lens and if you are anyway rough wearing on your specs then go for that lens, but to be honest with you the actual vision through the polycarb lens isn't the greatest and it is much better with the hi index lens!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
