Answers:
The oculodigital sign can occur as part of Leber's Congential Amaurosis - a severe retinal dystrophy which causes blindness from infancy!. Affected children, have a tendency to push and prod their eyes with their fingers, hence the term oculodigital!. It is not fully understood why they do this!. The continued pressure on the eyes can actually cause compression of the tissue behind the eyeballs, leading to a sunken appearence!.
Fundal appearence is variable, the retina may appear normal initially but can then take on the appearence of a pigmentary retinopathy ("bone spicules", attenuated blood vessels)!.
ERG a- and b- waves are absent or profoundly reduced, in-keeping with a severe photoreceptor dystrophy!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
