Question: What are the pros and cons of a 21 year old woman getting laser eye surgery!?
I don't think I will end up doing it, but ya never know!. I had glasses since the third grade and I can't stand them anymore!.!.!.So I'm just wondering all of my options and such!.!.!.THANKS :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Personally, and the opinion of my optician

It is a bad Idea!. Firstly it is not for everyone if you are long sighted then there is no op for that!. Secondly with laser eye surgery they thin out your cornea and as a result is irreversible and my optician knew some who's cornea was made so thin that the minor blood pressure fluctuations caused her to have about 4 pairs of glasses to stop their vision from bluring!. Third and finally you can get contact lenses actually implanted into your eye!.

All in all it is not that bad wearing glasses!. I wear them and I go for the stylish ones!. I got ones that have colbolt blue frames!.

But seriosly if you want to have it go for it but be warned that it is irreversible!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Pros:
Normal eyesight in almost all cases!.

Cons:
Expense!.
You don't want to cheap out on your eyes; reputable places seem to run $2k-$4k!.

Chance of side effects!.
Dry eye is very common; this is evidently due to severing the nerves that regulate tear production when your eyes feel dry!. Sometimes it clears up over the next year or two, sometimes it doesn't!. Fortunately, this is annoying but minor; you can always carry eye drops!. More serious but much less common include infections (as long as you follow the instructions rigorously, this is rare also; if you don't, you have a lot of risk); night "starring" (where you see stars of light around lights at night -- VERY bad for driving; you can no longer drive at night if you develop this!.!.!. less common than it used to be, with newer procedures and selection processes, though); and poorer vision than when you started!.

The chance of needing additional surgery (usually covered in your contract)!.
It's not too uncommon to find your vision not fully corrected when you go back for a follow-up; they then would put you through the procedure again to finetune your vision!. This is less common with the more experienced and reputable surgeons!.

And of course, the stress of someone messing with your eyes, and someone squashing/frying/cutting them!. I get the heebie-jeebies thinking about messing seriously with my eyes, personally!. Most places will give you valium if you need it for the procedure, since it's a pretty common fear!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well it can improve your eye sight, of course, but people's eyes do not stop changing until the late 30's into their 40's!. If you really want to have laser surgury you should wait until your eyes are stabilized, otherwise you'll just grow out of the surgury and be back where you were in the beginning- in contacts and glasses!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

pro:
improve vision fully ( oh really!?!?!?!?!?)

con:
you fell into a trap that you will never be able to get out

As I've heard, you can have serious problems with your eyesight later on in your life if you get the surgery!. I'm not sure how valid this is, but it's what I have heard!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Pro:

Improved eye sight

Con:

It's expensive!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Keep in mind that it is not permanent!. You likely will end up needing to wear glasses again at some time in the future!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
