Is the myopia prescription and astigmatism prescription added together to make a!
Question: Is the myopia prescription and astigmatism prescription added together to make a new prescription!?
For instance, if I'm -4!.00 myoptic with -1!.00 astigmatism, does that make my prescription -5!.00!?Www@Answer-Health@Com
Answers:
No you do not add the mumbers together!. Your prescription would reflect both your myopia and astigmatism in this format: -4!.00-1!.00x
However if you are trying to determine your contact lens prescription, that is a little more complicated!. If you have -1!.00 astigmatism, you should be wearing a toric contact lens that will correct for the astigmatism!. But you can technically wear a regular, spherical contact lens!. You would take half the astigmatism amount (-1!.00/2=-0!.50) and add that to the myopia (-4!.00+ -0!.50=-4!.50)!. Then you would reduce that number by 0!.25 to compensate for the vertex distance which would give you -4!.25Www@Answer-Health@Com
