Unfortunately Blossom is out of her depth in her answer and is misleading you!. You are suffering from bacterial conjunctivitis by the sound of it!. It is self limiting meaning it will sort itself out if you stop rubbing your eye but you can get chloramphenicol, the appropriate simple anti biotic eye drops , over the counter if you consult a pharmacist!. If you "have an optometrist" s/he will see you almost certainly at no charge if you have consulted s/he previously and will recommend the same medication or supply you with some at cost+ from his stock!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Dry eyes, probably!.

Is your environment dusty/smoky!? Wearing contact lenses!?

Dry eyes may not be necessary lasting throughout the whole day!. Induced-dry eyes can be due to environmental and lifestyle issues!.
Let's say if you wore contacts, the situation can be aggravated!.
Try washing your eyes with eye lotions (avoid tap water as it may cause bacteria infections)!. or you can try out more viscous eye drops!.

If problem persist, please consult the doctors!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

well your eye feeling itchy and gritty is usually caused by dry eye or tiredness but the mucus in your eye sounds like and infection id say go to your doctor and get them to prescribe and eye ointment or drops!. but dont go to your optician because they cant prescribe any medications and you may be charged for the visit so go straight to your doctor!. but i wouldnt worry too much most eye infections are not serious and can be cleared away in a few days with the right treatment!. good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com
