Question: What sort of tests to does the optician have to carry out to check for retinal detachment!?
Answers:
well first of all you wouldn't go to an optician if you think you have a detached retina!. you need to see an ophthalmologist that specializes in retinal detachment!.

the DR!. will ask you a few questions about your vision and any changes you've notice recently!. he/she may have you watch a short video on retinal detachments and floaters!.
they will dialate your eyes with eye drops so he/she can see into the back part of your eye better!. (where the retina is)
the DR would look for a tear in the retina and will use a light and a magnafier to see closer and more clearly (if your eyes are sensative to light this is the worst part of the examination) and then they would do an ultrasound of your eye!. its just like an ultrasound pregnant women get!. there is a wand and the jelly comes out onto your eye lid (your eye will be closed) and they will ask you to move your eye in different directions so they can see where the detachment is!.

if the DR finds a tear/detachment you will need to have surgery with in a few days!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

First, the doctor will ask about your medical history and any problems with your eyesight!. Then he'll test your vision, including distances and side vision!. Then the doctor will examine the retina using a magnifier and a light that will show any tears or detachment!. If there's blood, the doctor will use ultrasound to see if there's damage to the eye's blood vessels!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

An optician won't do any tests to check for a retinal detachment!. An Ophthalmologist will dilate your pupils and will use a lens and a light to look at the back of the eye!. They may even use pressure to push the areas of the retina that they cannot see well!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
