no its mostly hereditaryWww@Answer-Health@Com

Yes and it was proved beyond doubt 40 years ago in a study by Francis A!. Young!. et al!. : "The Transmission of Refractive Errors within Eskimo Families," published in the American Journal of Optometry and Archives of the American Academy of Optometry 46, no!. 9, September, 1969!.
The vision of Eskimos living on the northern shore of Alaska was examined!. It was found that the parents and grandparents, who were illiterate and living a typical outdoor life, were not nearsighted !. The children had all gone to school and approximately 58% of them were nearsighted ,furthermore the severity of their nearsightedness increased with number of years in school!. It was even worse with the individuals who were between 21 and 25 years old, because 88% of them were nearsighted!.
I just wonder why so many ophthalmologists, optometrists and opticians still talk about the supposed genetic causes of nearsightedness!.
Maybe they are not really interested in preventing nearsightedness but only in putting glasses on people's noses (or contacts on their eyes)!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
