I have strabismus and have the option of a fourth surgery. Should I do It?!

Question: I have strabismus and have the option of a fourth surgery!. Should I do It!?
I am 15 and have had 3 previous surgeries for strabismus!.
I was aged 14 months, 4 years and 5 years!.
My right eye turns out and my left eye is the dominant eye!.
I wear glasses with the left eye -1 and the right eye +0!.50!.
My opthamologist told me that the main purpose was cosmetic correction but there was a chance my vision would be improved ie!. better depth perception!.
I get headaches very often and my right eye being messed up could have something to do with that so that's another poss!. benefit!.
What I want to know is do you think it would be a good idea to go ahead with it given the main possible bad thing to happen is i get double vision which is v!. unlikely!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
If your eye misalignment is bothering you, you should have the surgery!. It may also help your headaches (some patients report it does)!. It is also possible your ophthalmologist may intentionally overcorrect your alignment (ie make your eyes a little turned in) at surgery to give your eyes a greater chance of staying straighter longer!. Most patients who experience double vision after surgery find that it goes away!. Since you already wear glasses, you may be able to be helped with temporary plastic stick on prisms after surgery if you have very bothersome double vision!.

You might want to talk with your parents about it!. Another thing to consider is you might want to have surgery before you're not covered by your parents' insurance anymore!. Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Like your ophthalmologist said it would mainly be for cosmetic purposes!. I'm 13 and just had it done for the second time on Tuesday- I had it done the first time when I was 4!. However, seeing as you've had it done 3 times already, the surgeons won't have much to work with!. If it's bothering you, though, I think you should go for it!.:)Www@Answer-Health@Com

I've had two strabismus surgeries and I have no desire to have a third one!. I suggest looking into vision therapy as a possible treatment!. You may also want to try contact lenses to better balance the vision between your eyes!. Contacts have less image distortion than eyeglasses and may improve your depth perception!.

This decision is really up to you!. There is no guarantee that it will fix the problems you are experiencing!. I have been through several treatments for strabismus!. I was patched, wore prism eyeglasses, had vision therapy, and surgery!. I can say that my eyes are better than they were prior to surgery, but not quite normal!. It does not bother me enough to justify any additional treatment for it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
