Question: Why do we have to pay an eye doctor to prescribe glasses for us in this day and age!?
If a 16-year-old child can be trained and legally allowed to drive a friggin automobile on every road in America, an adult can rent a machine, click a few buttons or turn a few dials , watch blurry words get clear, and push another button and print out his prescription!.
If an 18 year old kid can drive a Tank or operate a machine gun, I can prescribe my own glasses!.

An optometrist who studied for 8 years to get his degree learned a lot more than how to turn a few dials and press a few buttons!.
Even the most sophisticated auto refractors don't give a reliable result that can be used for the actual prescription!. The eyes are just too complicated for machines to do it all!.
" Real" Dr's as you put it, don't have the training to recognize and treat eye problems!. That's why they are called general practioners , they don't specialize in any one area!.
The eyes are too important to trust to anyone who doesn't have the years of training behind them to be able to interpret what they see during the exam!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Someone has to be trained to use those machines, so either way you'd have to pay someone to do it for you!. It's not just a matter of pushing a button and it does all the work!. Plus, getting the wrong Rx can be VERY damaging to your eyes!.

You should really try natural vision improvement, eye exercises or the Bates method!.!.!.if you think about it you'll see Nature never intended for people to use glasses as they are functionally no different to things like crutches, wheelchairs and bandages!. Plus they can make your vision worse and you need to worry about looking after them carefully!. Just imagine what would happen if no one needed to use glasses (just like it was in the olden days)- people would be happy that they would be able to see clearly naturally and the optometry industry would go broke and die of!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

because you may be able to work the machine just fine but there will always be some noob who breaks something or sues someone

The machines ( I assume you mean auto refractor) are not as accurate as a "which is better, one or two" exam!.
But if you want to, there is nothing stopping you from buying an auto refractor (cost about $25,000), printing out your refraction and ordering your glasses on-line!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I bet you want to do your own open heart surgery and replace the engine in your own car too!. People go to school for expertise that they will not give you free of charge!. You CAN learn to do anything!. I encourage you to go to school and learn a profession! But you can not look in your own eye!. Prescriptions are too subjective to rely on computerized refractions!. It DOES take a person that is trained and has the proper degrees of education to give you a correct Rx that will really work well!. this is not a fly by night thing that you can just do on your own!. And, eye doctors ARE the ones that do the work for eye diseases!.!.!.!.general doctors do NOT have the proper training to do what the specialists do!. You sound very young, uneducated and extremely ignorant!. Oh!.!.!.are you a teen!? THAT is why! LOL!
