Answers:
Eyeglasses have been around in different forms for close to 500 years, since the 1500's

Contacts are a lot newer of course, however the first useable lenses, that covered the whole eye and were made of glass came into being in 1888!. They could only be worn for very short periods, so weren't all that good!.

The first plastic , developed for rigid lenses came in 1947!. Then the first soft lenses as we know them now came into being in 1971!. Followed by RGP lenses in 1979 , and the first disposables in 1987!.

Previous to the invention of glasses I presume they just had to depend on others to get around!.

Sabre tooth tigers probably made lunch out of a lot of people who never saw them coming!.!.!.lolWww@Answer-Health@Com

There was quite probably not many people who were, say, shortsighted in the first place because some studies have proved that incidence of shortsightedness increases with level of education (affected slightly by race)!.
Not sure if I totally believe this but, anyway!.
So I think probably what happened is either not many people had visual impairment in the first place (either cos everyone had ok vision in the first place, or, because they became dinner for some predatory animal), or, the other option is that their family helped them out and let them off things like hunting duty and they just stayed in the cave or whatever, so they werent put into a situation where they needed to be able to see that well, or could potentially be eaten!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
