Eye cataract surgery?!


Question: Eye cataract surgery!?
Is a person awake during this surgery!? Or is their entire body under anesthetic!?
Is it painful, during or after the surgery!?
What exactly happens!?

Normally you are awake, and there is a local anesthetic!. There might be some minor discomfort, but there should be no pain!. Probably the office will do a pre-cataract ultrasound procedure to determine the correct power of your new lens implant!.

Unless there a complicating factors, the surgeon generally dissolves the hardened lens, "vacuums" up the old lens called phaco-emulsification, and inserts a new "implant" lens within the capsule enclosing it!. Voila! Your new vision should be bright and clear !

Your ophthalmologist should take time to answer your questions!.

The patient is usually wide awake and a local anaesthetic is given to the eye so the patient doesnt feel anything!. It should not be painful during the surgery!. After the surgery there may be a slight gritty sensation but not really painful!.
