Opthamology Question. ?!

Question: Opthamology Question!. !?
I'm going to see my Opthamologist next week, for the first time in 15 years, and want to prepared!. I have underdeveloped optic nerves, nystagmus, astigmatism, almost full blindness in my left eye and about 1/4 blindness in my right!.

They say the astigmatism is not muscle related (They tightened the muscles when I was a baby and astigmatism persisted!.)

I want to know (1) who is most respected amongst opthamologists!? (2) who are regarded as the best on Brittain and (3) Has medical science come along enough in this field that there may now be something they can do after all!? Any new operations they can try!?

I have two children and havestarted to notice that what sight I have is already degrading (I'm 25)!. Any help at all would be much appreciated!

Hi,

I may suggest a handful - Chad Rostron at Moorfields, St Georges, Sheraz Daya at the Centre for Sight, East Grinstead or Richard Packard at Arnott Eye Associates, Harley Street!.

I know of no new technology has been developed / used currently for optic dystrophy (I imagine this is what is meant by undeveloped)!. The degree of nystagmus will be relevant to what can be done surgically - you may be looking at squint surgery in that case!. Laser surgery could deal with the astigmatism if it made an overall difference to your vision!.

First port of call is to check the viability of your optic nerves - if their function is limited to your current level of vision, then there would be little point in performing any other refractive treatment - the improved visual signals would still not be delivered to the brain!.

I would suggest that you get your children's eyes looked at as well!. With all forms of squints, amblyopia etc the earlier it is diagnosed and treated the better the long term outcome!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

erm i have they eye conditions too and its difficult to find a decent opthamologist to go to i usualy go by the hospital because the better it is the better the doctors usually are gl xWww@Answer-Health@Com

Maybe you should see glacoma specialits since your optic nerves are undeveloped, and that could be inherited, they are opthalomologists, tooWww@Answer-Health@Com
