Anyone with good knowledge of eye-glasses?!

Question: Anyone with good knowledge of eye-glasses!?
I have been wearing single vision near- sightedness eye-glasses for over 20 years!. Lately, I discovered my new eye-glasses only offers me clear vision for far-distance objects!. When I look at close up objects, things become a bit blurred!.

I did ask the optometrist who checked my eyes for the glasses; he said it's normal and acceptable, but this is quite an unusual experience from my past in which my older single vision eye glasses were able to let me see everything close by or far away!.

I just suspect that optometrist was not an honest person who just tried to make more money out of customers by lying to them and cheating us for another eye-examination!.

Can someone provide me a true answer about how single vision works for near-sighted individuals!?

Can these glasses provide clear vision for close up objects!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Usually it's when you're around 40 your eyesight changes where you can't see things clearly close up!. (Like the fine print) Your optometrist was right about it being normal, but I can't imagine why he wouldn't change your glasses to bifocals unless he thought they weren't bad enough yet!. If you're not satisfied with the way you see, go back and tell him or find another optometrist!. It looks like you'll have to spring for another pair of glasses!. The problem with the suggestion to get reading glasses from the drugstore is those are made for people who don't have vision problems to begin with so they just correct the presbyopia!. There are clip on magnifying glasses you can get at Joann's if you want to go the cheap way for another year!. That essentially serves the same purpose!. My personal preference is progressive lenses!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It could be dependant on your age!. The way lenses work is that they alter the way that light focuses on the retina!. When people are nearsighted, it indicates that the image comes to focus beyond the retina!. They can see up close, but as the waves lengthen, distortion is more noticeable!.

However, with age many people develop farsightedness!. I'm not quite sure how that works in conjunction with nearsightedness, but it's possible you may need bifocals, which is common, as far as I know, among people who have prior nearsightedness!. You might try reading glasses that are available from drug stores or similar places and see if they help your up-close vision!.

I hope this is helpful!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you were happy with your old glasses, why did you go to the optometrist at all!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

It is a common phenomenon!.

Knowing your age would help explain a lot!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm in my late 20's and that still works just fine!. Usually!.

How old are you!? (I'm guessing older than I am if you've been at this for 20 years!.) Close vision seems to be the first thing to go with age, and trying to focus nearby through a lens designed to focus far away can't be any easier than trying to focus nearby through air!. !. !. can it!?

I'm wondering if perhaps you're just noticing these things more since you've just changed prescriptions and I know we all then go around testing them on everything we can find to look at!. :) Do you still have any old lenses lying around, preferably actually in frames!? I'd check how those are working for you with the critical eye you're using on those new ones!. !. !. it's possible you just hadn't noticed the really gradual shift over the years until it got shifted to a slightly stronger (!?) prescription!. Or maybe not!. Either way, it'd give you a better idea if you should be annoyed with him or just frustrated with age!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm 49 years old and nearsighted!. I still use single lens glasses but I don't see as well with them close up as I used to!. I get around that by taking my glasses off or looking over them to see small print or anything else close up!. I've been reluctant to get bifocals because I can still make do without them!. I don't need the magnification for reading that bifocals provide because I can see better without glasses!. My eye care specialist says this is very characteristic of older nearsighted people!. Many of them can read small print quite comfortably without visual aids until they are in their 80s or beyond!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
