The "pressure and nerve things" are two separate things and then again they may not be two separate things!. Your doctor is concerned that you may be developing glaucoma!. Glaucoma is a disease of the optic nerve that does indeed involve nerve loss which results in an increase in the size of the optic cup(dent)!. Most cases of glaucoma can be directly associated with noticeably higher pressures!.

The thing you must realize, though, is that eye pressure and optic nerve appearance may not be directly related!. I have seen patients with pressures as low as 12 or so that definitely have glaucomatous nerve loss!. I have also seen patients with pressures of 27 or so that have perfectly normal nerves!. Some people have optic nerves that are 70% and have been that size all their lives and they are just fine!.

Your doctor is watching to see if your nerves CHANGE!. Nerves that are healthy do not change!. Nerves that have glaucoma will change in appearance!. If you have access to an earlier eye exam done by another doctor where photographs of the nerve were taken, then you really may already have the information you need to decide if you have glaucoma or not!. If you compare pictures from a few years ago and the nerve has changed then you definitely have glaucoma!. There is no reason to wait 3 months to decide!.

Make sure your doctor is monitoring for nerve change with computerized nerve fiber analysis instrumentation!. Ask if he or she is using an OCT or an HRT to assess your nerves!. The naked eye many times has a hard to seeing small changes in the nerve but nerve fiber analysis is very sensitive to these changes and can allow your doctor to notice any nerve changes much earlier than using the naked eye!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have optic nerve issues of my own!.!.!.at my last check-up, I went to a new doctor!. She took photos of my eyes!.!.!.well, the vessels are quite thin at the optic nerve and my eye pressure is also on the high end of normal!. She's concerned I may be showing signs of early glaucoma!. I have to get a field vision test in the future!.

I hope neither you (nor I!) have glaucoma, but that's what my situation is and what my eye doctor said to me!.

Good luck and take care!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
