Just had an eye exam...never wore glasses...doctor said i need to wear bifocals !

Question: Just had an eye exam!.!.!.never wore glasses!.!.!.doctor said i need to wear bifocals full time!!?
i'm 39 and started having problems seeing things up close and far away (like street signs) for about a year!. the doctor said i need to start wearing glasses all the time!. i really don't want to wear glasses (on top of that, bifocals!) and was hoping to wear contact lenses instead!. the doctor gave me contacts for distance for when i play sports!.!.!.so everything up close is still a total blur and i would still need to wear glasses with the contacts! Do I have any other options!?!?!? i think glasses make me look older and i don't like that the lenses look thick too!.

also, does vision get worse every year regardless if I start wearing glasses!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

"the doctor said i need to start wearing glasses all the time"

That's just wrong for starters!. As long as you are legal when you drive, everything else is up to you!. If sometimes you prefer a blurry world to wearing a correction, it's nobody's business but your own!.
It doesn't make a difference to the future Rx any which way!.
You will gradually need more help with closework: just age!. We're all doomed!

The two prescription feature is normal as you age, but 39 is younger than average unless you are of Asian ethnicity!.

Contact lenses are an option, either with reading glasses over the top as required, or bifocal contacts (of a variety of designs and techniques) !. People think them wonderful when they work, but they don't work for anything like everyone!. Only a trial can tell!.

Other options:
Lasik, Lasek!.!.!. to re-set your distance vision to near zero, but you would still need reading glasses deal with your distance vision!.

Clear lens replacement: essentially opting for cataract surgery before you get cataract!. The replacement internal lenses can be set to clear distance vision, (with reading glasses, again,) or there are bifocal options (with advantages and drawbacks: for you to research)

(and this route gets any future cataract troubles out of the way!
I'm considering it for myself at about the age of 55, but I didn't need a bifocal Rx till I was 48, 9 years later than you!.)

Get a second opinion and see if you are a candidate for Lasik surgery!. There is no cure for needing the bottom part of the glasses - the reading glasses part!. Good thing is, you can get about 5 pairs for $10 at Sam's!. Also, if you do have to have bifocals, you can get "no line" or "progressive" bifocals and no one will be able to tell!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Vision gets better without glasses beacuse they will ajust but with glassess your eyes will ajust to the lens in the glasess and if you are going to wear them all the time they will just get worse when you take them offWww@Answer-Health@Com

there are contacts for bifocalsWww@Answer-Health@Com

What's wrong with wearing bifocals!? They really aren't that bad, are they!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

You are at the age that everything goes downhill especially your sight!. You should be able to only wear contacts instead of both contacts and bifocals!. I have a friend that wears contacts because her bifocals are really thick and she can see near as well as far!. You could try seeking around for contacts that will suit both purposes!.

If that fails then you can look for a nice pair that suits you face!. They have some nice ones that look cute!. Try getting accustom to them!.

After I reaches forty I realized that I was fighting to read one night!. I develop a sty from straining to read!. When I went to the specialist they said that from forty everything goes downhill!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You could get progressives!.
Or another option is to have contacts prescribed for long distance and to get reading glasses to wear over the top!. They will need to neutralise (for want of a better word), and, on top of that, have the prescription you need!. I suggest you don't get them from a drugstore, get proper ones!.
The downside to this option is the reading glasses would be way too powerful if you weren't wearing the contacts!.

However, since you need a backup for your contacts anyway, you could get these as a bifocal, or a progressive lense!.

To minimise the edge thickness get a smaller frame!.
You could also get a high index lense!.

No, vision will not get worse because of wearing glasses!.
Actually what glasses will do in most cases is take the excessive strain of your eyes!. Because, before, what your eyes were doing was work ecessively hard to not see their best!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
