I want to get LASIK, but I've got a couple of questions?!

Question: I want to get LASIK, but I've got a couple of questions!?
My optometrist has told me that I'm a good candidate for LASIK because I have so much to gain (ha, ha!.)!. My prescriptions are -4!.75 (astigmatism), and -5!.50!. Simple terms: I'm super nearsighted!.
How old do I have to be to have LASIK or any other type of corrective vision surgery done!? I turned 20 in January!.
What's the process like!? Would I be totally "out of it," or just sedated!? I'm a bit of an antsy person (going to the dentist freaks me out, sometimes I'm twitchy at the eye doctor when getting the pressure in my eyes checked, etc) when it comes to my face, but I'm assuming I'm not the only one, and that they're prepared for that!.
How much discomfort or pain is there in the first day in days following!?
Also, I have mild allergies and sometimes have dry eyes, but 99% of the time my eyes are dry it's because of contacts!. Would this lead to a problem later on!?
Also, I know LASIK isn't perfect, so what would my eyesight be like after!? Would I need glasses for reading or driving, or just eventually, or!. !. !.!?

Thanks!. That's a lot of questions, I know!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

"I turned 20 in January"

have to be 18 so you're good there!.

"What's the process like!? Would I be totally "out of it," or just sedated!?"

neither!. you'd take a valium (i guess thats *kind of* sedated, but not really IMO) and they use "numbing eyedrops"!.

"I'm a bit of an antsy person (going to the dentist freaks me out, sometimes I'm twitchy at the eye doctor when getting the pressure in my eyes checked, etc) when it comes to my face, but I'm assuming I'm not the only one, and that they're prepared for that!."

they are definitely prepared!. you cant "mess them up" by being squeamish!.

"How much discomfort or pain is there in the first day in days following!?"

not much!. a little!. mostly dry feeling!.

"Also, I have mild allergies and sometimes have dry eyes, but 99% of the time my eyes are dry it's because of contacts!. Would this lead to a problem later on!?"

unlikely!.

"Also, I know LASIK isn't perfect, so what would my eyesight be like after!?"

with the Rx you listed above, very highly likely to be 20/20 and not need any glasses/contacts for anything until you're 45 and need READING glasses!.

"Would I need glasses for reading or driving, or just eventually, or!. !. !.!?"

you would still need reading glasses in your early/mid 40's!. everyone does!. its called "presbyopia"!. LASIK is permanent (would permanently make you not-nearsighted), but it will not permanently keep you from needing any vision correction!.!.!.you'd still need reading glasses in your 40's no matter whatWww@Answer-Health@Com

You might want to check with another doctor if lasik is for you!. If you have dry eyes now it could get a lot worse with lasik!. My friend needed to have plugs installed into her eyelids after lasik and she said its uncomfortable!. Another friend lost night vision after lasik!. Two others report no problems at all!. 50/50 doesn't sound like good odds to me so I'll stick to glasses and contacts!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Your questions are valid but, instead of thinking what the procedure is like, you should try reading!. Lasik has many complications and secondary effects, know them!. Know the true benefits and then, decide!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

question is good, but knowing the truth is a another thing, because there is so many fake things out there that we don't even know if it's fake or if it' s true!.

every eye care professional from their bottom of their heart can only say LASIK is a bad option,

LASIK has too much complication reported, but the public does not know anything about it

Essentials in Ophthalmology-Cornea and External Eye disease text book describe, Infective Complications Following LASIK in chapter 11

why is it that this is not exposed to the public!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
maybe we need to expose more problems to public so they understand, you and individuals have the right to own their eye and not optical industry!. OPTICAL INDUSTRY HAVE NO RIGHT TO TAKE AWAY FREEDOM OFF PEOPLE!.

by the way about the permanent not short sighted after LASIK, but i thought shortsighted is a eye disease, how contradicting to the text book, since it's disease simple removal of a cornea has completely fix the genetic aspect of the disease how strange!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

No LASIK is not a permanent shortsighted fix, a patient who continues the old habit their shortsightedness will return, there is so many cases has reported that shortsightedness return after LASIK surgery

so now you are informed of the truth, it's up to you in which action you want to take!.
