Glasses online or opticians?!

Question: Glasses online or opticians!?
I need a new set of specs, but suffer from severe myopia -5!.75 and -6!.25!. I want my lenses to be as thin as possible!.

Is this done best at an opticians or can I trust an online company to make them just as well!?

My prescription was 2 years ago and I am 30 - would I need another test!?

ThanksWww@Answer-Health@Com

You can get them online, the only problem is an optician can give you ALL your options and usually online they expect you to know what you want!. I will break it down for you and give you your BEST options!.!.!.

1) Go with lenses that have a "hi-index" 1!.6 or higher!.!.!.the highest is 1!.74 and also the most expensive!. Polycarbonate has an index of 1!.59 and is a little cheaper but the optics are not as good!. The higher the index-the thinner/lighter the lens!.

2) Get an anti-reflective coating!.!.!.usually you CANT get hi-index lenses with out one!. There are many coatings are the market, make sure you go with one of the "easy-to-clean" coatings!. Essilor makes one called "Forte" and Nikon makes one called "ICE" or "Seecoat" any one of these are excellent choices!. You want an anti-reflective coating because hi-index lenses are flat and will cause more reflection than the average lens!. It also includes UV and Scratch Resistance!.!.!.great for night time driving, computers etc!. and ofcoarse makes your glasses look great!

3) Stay away from "rimless" or "semi-rimless" frames-these will show ALL the edge thickness!. You want a full frame to hide some of it!. Also, the smaller the frame the less edge thickness-don't go with a big frame (large lenses)!.

If you came into my office I would recommend all of these things to you, but ultimately it's your choice-I just give the options!. With your precription a 1!.67 index (between 1!.6 and 1!.74) would be just fine!.

You will also need to give the onlne optical your PD measurement-this is the distance between your pupils!. You may need to go to an optician to get this measured if it is not on your prescription!.

ALSO- Prescriptions usually expire after 2yrs, check your prescription to see when it has expired!. I would recommend an eye exam anyways because it has been so long and you want your glasses to last you as least 2-3 more yrs!.!.!.just to make sure-re-check the RX!.

Good luck and I hope this helps!Www@Answer-Health@Com
