I am caucasian, but have small eyes and high cheek bones!. I went to one of the best Lasik doctors in the U!.S!. and had a bad experience, just two days ago!. Now, I can see nothing with my right eye -- everything is a total blur!. But, it is supposed to improve within a week or two!.

The Lasik failed!. I was given no anesthesia, just Xanax and Valium, which turned-out to be totally inadequate in my case!. The procedure was unbearably painful!.

Because my eyes are small, the doctor had to use more force and pressure to open my eyes wide enough for the procedure!. I have a high pain tolerance and breezed through lens replacement surgery before this (which is a much bigger deal than Lasik)!. But, the pain on my eyebrow bone and cheek bone was so bad, that my eye involuntarily started squeezing very hard against the force around my eye and was popping out the device!. I was also panicking a bit because they said the discomfort would only be for a very short period, but in fact was much longer because of their repeated attempts at the procedure!.

The doctor tried suction 3 times and managed to make some laser incisions!. But, the doctor confirmed all that resulted was essentially ZERO for vision improvement!. He also admitted that my eye was "beat up" (doctor's exact words) in the process!. Well, there is no doubt about that because my eye is swollen, sore and everything is a complete blur (I can't even read the largest letters on an eye chart)!.

Thank God the doctor refused to work on the left eye after the problems with the right eye!. I would be essentially blind in both eyes right now if he had tried!.

The doctor recommended PRK instead!. But, that does not appeal to me because the procedure has more risk of human error, takes longer to recover from and takes much longer for the vision improvements to materialize!.

I am thinking that I will suggest to the doctor that we try Lasik again, BUT!.!.!., I need a strong pain killer like percoset or morphine ahead of time (the doctor said anesthesia won't work for bones)!. The Xanax and Valium were a joke!.

I simply had no idea this could happen and was just extremely disappointed!. I am hoping the vision in my right eye returns quickly as it heals from being "beat up!." The pain during the procedure was just intolerable!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The fact that you have small eyes means that you are probably far sighted (do your glasses make your eyes look bigger!?)!. This is known as hyperopia and limits your candidacy for refractive surgery!. If I'm wrong and your near sighted (myopia), there is a better chance you'll be a candidate!.

Either way, only an eye doctor (optometrist or ophthalmologist) can determine if you are eligible for any type of refractive procedure (lasik, PRK, RK, ect)!. It depends on your current prescription, the thickness of your cornea, the size of your pupils, and a number of other factors!. Again, the only way to know is to see a doctor!. While only ophthalmologists are able to preform the surgery in the majority of states, optometrists frequently work with the surgeons to provide pre- and post-op care for lasik patients, and their offices are typically more patient friendly since they are usually not in a hospital or huge medical building

additional questions:

with ANY surgery there are risks of complications, but these are exceedingly rare with lasik!. If there is a problem, it is usually along the lines of an inflammatory reaction to the trauma, and easily treatable!. While not impossible, blindness is not a real concern!. Worst case scenario, you may need additional procedures to fix a mistake (rarely!)!. Again, the reason so many factors are taken into account regarding your eligibility for surgery is to limit the potential for complications!. If anything doesn't look right, you won't be able to get the procedure!. Unlike RK which was the treatment of choice a decade ago, Lasik is a mostly automated process, leaving little room for human error!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm Japanese and have bad eyesight!. I know a guy with a small eyes who had lasik!. It doesn't matter how big or small your eyes are!. What matters is if you qualify!.

You have to be at least 21 and have thick enough corneas (they cut a flap on the cornea), and you must have stable vision for two years!.

Your eyesight can get worse, but that's rare!. Complications can occur and every surgery has risks!. The only reason you'll go blind is if you go to a really bad surgeon who's not qualified!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I had Lasik eye surgery done after wearing glasses for 16 years!. It has been perfect for me!. I have had no changes!. Of course, as I age, I expect changes!. I also co-manage refractive surgery and have seen hundreds of successful patients!. It doesn't hurt, generally!. There is a bit of pressure, but no real pain if you have LASIK!. The PRK version (where no flap is cut) is a little more uncomfortable for the first few days following the procedure!. I've seen several people who said they were in some pain, but healed just fine!. I used to wear both glasses and contact lenses!. I had LASIK done and it's the best decision I've ever made!. I can see clearly, no squinting, no driving with glasses anymore!. I can read road signs, see the individual leaves in the trees (they're not just a blurry mess anymore)!. It's also nice to be able to see what time it is when I wake up!. The procedure is painless (although a bit uncomfortable) but takes less than 15 minutes!. Highly recommended!.
