Is it possible to miss glaucoma in an eye exam?!

Question: Is it possible to miss glaucoma in an eye exam?
I recently went to the hospital because I got eczema cream in my eye. I got examined because this was during the night at an A&E and she said that I was okay, but I read somewhere that hydrocortisone ointment can lead to glaucoma. Would an eye examination here in the UK miss something like glaucoma? Or is this unlikely? Especially when neither of us mentioned this during the examination.

That visit to a&E was to fix a specific problem. It won't have included a full eye exam to check for all possible issues with your eyes. She won't for example have checked your perscription. If you are worried then you need to go and have an eye test , however I think one incident of getting cream in your eye is very unlikely to have given you glaucoma immediately. Glaucoma tends to develop over time.

About 25% of people are "steroid responders", if they use a steroid drop in the eyes for several days the pressure in the eye will increase. When they stop using the steroid, the pressure goes back to normal.

If you only got the cream in the eye on one occasion, there is no need to worry.

BTW, the emergency visit would have been just to check the cornea for harm from the cream, it would not have been a full eye exam.
