I think I need Glasses, but worried! Help?!

Question: I think I need Glasses, but worried! Help?
I am 16 years old. for many years now I have known that I have had terrible eyesight. at school I find it hard to see the board even though i am sitting at the front of the room, which may have impacted on my learning. I now have had enough, and want to ask my parents to go and get my eyes checked by a professional. my parents know nothing of my eyesight, they think i have 20/20 vision. I think that it will be very embarrasing to tell them, and i am not to sure about what to say. I also am still going to school obviously, and I am worried what my firends will think and make fun of me. sorry for the bad structuring of this, but to summarise it, my questions are: How should i tell my parents, what are the ways of telling people at school, and just please some general advice on getting glasses.

One thing at a time. the first thing to do is tell your parents. There is no need to be embarassed, just say you are starting to have problems seeing at school and you're worried that its affecting your learning. They don't have to know how bad it is or how long its been going on for. They will then take you to teh eye doctors
Now it seems likely you'll need glasses so your friends. they must already know you have problems seeing or you wouldn't be always trying to sit at teh front. They have probably already worked out you need glasses becaues of the problems but don't know how to talk to you about it. Mention casually that you are going for an eye test and see what reaction you get. Some people in school may be nasty but they may not. There are lots of answers on here with people who have tried this for teh first time and you migth want to search. You will have the option of contacts as well.

Now glasses - the thing to do is get them as light as possible as that makes a big difference to how comfortable they are. That means getting the lenses as small as possible. Sounds like you are near sighted so teh majority of the weight is in the outside edge, every little bit counts. Hi-index lenses are good as well. Its not a good idea to pick frames immediately after the test as its a big decision and a first test tends to be long and tiring. Look at some frames and ask if you can come back and make a decision. Discuss this with your parents first and if you have to be careful how much they cost. Look online at teh sort of frames that might suit your face.

Good luck - many people have this and whilst it is worrying where you are , it'll seem quite easy once you have done it.

Glasses are no big dea. First pf all, be honest with the parental units. Tell them you think you need glasses but were embarassed to tell them earlier. yes, some will call you "four eyes" but that's just teens for you. If possible, try getting contact lenses. Then you will have better vision and you won't have to worry about any possible stigma from the glasses. If you do get glasses try to get ones with a sturdy frame, especially of you are active in sports.

ive worn glasses for 45 years

ok i had the same type of thing tho i din't really mind i just asked for my parents to get a check up with the optician just say for awhile now you have been finding it differcult/ having blurry vision ( thought it would go away but didn't) once u get checked u will prob have glasses but u prob only need to use them while reading hence ur friends shouldn't make fun of u and just say u need them to see/ focus and no1 will care dn't worry about it.

When I went to High School we had eye exams every several years. Since you are 16 it is simple. Sign up for driver's education. you will have to get an eye exam to get a learner's permit. When you fail the DMV eye exam you will be directed to get an exam by a regular eye doctor. That should solve the problem. Or go to a guidance counselor.

I went to get a licence as an adult.

Stop being worried about what your friends think and start thinking about you - and your life. I did not know I needed glasses until I failed part of the military draft medical exam at age 20. I WOULD HAVE DONE BETTER IN SCHOOL HAD I BEEN WEARING GLASSES ALL OF THOSE EARLIER SCHOOL YEARS.

And these days you can get contacts and Lasik to fix many eye focusing issues. Good luck.

a lot of people need glasses and of course at first everybody can have difficulties with them. However, the advances are much more.Do not fergot you can see like the others, you can have a car and a big number of people love her glasses deeply.

you'd better see an eye doctor, they will tell you what to do. if you really need eyeglasses, the also will offer you eyeglasses prescription. with the prescription, you can buy eyeglasses.

Its best to explain the problem that you are facing and request them to fix an appointment with an eye doctor.

Hi , I was interested in your question. I have to tell you that both my parents noticed their eyesight deteriorate over time and had to wear glasses. They were considering laser surgery but were advised to try natural remedies first. They read an article called How To Restore Your Eyesight Without Surgery. They took the advice, did the recommended eye exercises and were delighted with the results. Neither of them wear glasses anymore! I can't say if it will work for you, but it's a fascinating read and teaches alot about how to look after your eyes. Apparently my parents experience is quite typical. You might like to give it a try aswell - it can't do any harm!

I wish you good luck.
