When I watch a 3-D movie my eyes hurt?!

Question: When I watch a 3-D movie my eyes hurt?
How come when I watch a 3-D movie my eyes hurt? I hate it, and i always have to take off my 3-D glasses for a while or leave the movie theatre or else its just unbearable. I don't have any eye problems that I know of. I don't wear glasses or anything. And I'm not old.

Is there any way to prevent this? or ways to reduce the eye pain watching 3-D movies?

Please don't say.. "Oh, then.. don't go to a 3-D movie..." because I have to. If my kids really want to go and see lets say, "Ponies in 3-D!" i cant tell them to go see it alone, because they aren't old enough to see a movie without a parents supervision. Of my youngest kids, my daughter is 6 and my son is 5. I cant not go with them to see it or even say no because it's 3-D. I'm not THAT mean to them.

Any way to reduce this, or even stop the eye pain from happening?
Thank you guys so much for your help.

Answers:

3D movies are a new realm for our eyes and our brain...
When cars were first available.. a lot more people were getting motion-sickness..etc.. we're just not used to it...

3D movies force your eyes to move slightly different to 2D movies. In 2D, both eyes always move in the same direction... as you track your movie-star move left right up or down on the screen. Both eyes move the same way.. parallel with each other.

In 3D. your eyes also do this.. but now, if Objects move FORWARDS or BACKWARDS from the plane of the screen, then your eyes will move in opposite direction... and become crossed...

Not only that, but our minds are still used to seeing movies on FLAT screens.. but now it has to adjust to 3D space infront of the screen.. and virtual (fake) space behind the screen.

I think in time, we will all adapt...

In the mean time... there's one really cool trick you can do..
Take the 3D glasses from the Cinema... bring them to an Optician... Choose a smaller frame than the 3D Frame...
Ask the Optician to take the 3D Polarizing filters from the cinema glasses and fit them to a new frame BUT:
You MUST ask them to flip ONE of the filters (reverse, front to back) so that you're now looking through it from front to back.

Now, your 3D glasses have become 2D glasses (that is the will convert 3D back to a normal 2D movie)... So you can go to a 3D screening with your children, and watch it with out the head-aches and eye pains...

NB. This only works with 3d MOVIES in CINEMAS.. not 3D TV @ home or 3D on Playstation games.
