the smack from the pole caused the vein to expose. i play tennis a lot, and have been hit in the eyes multiple times. a similar vein showed up under my eye too, but it went away after 1-2 days. don't worry it isn't a major problem.
Yes, there was always a blue vein under your eye. Everybody does. Only, some people's are more noticeably than others' due to lighter complexions. You probably see it now because of the bruising. Keep some ice on your eye so the swelling goes down. And, putting pressure on bruises, I've been told, helps as well.
