Question on astigmatism and myopia contacts?!

Question: Question on astigmatism and myopia contacts?
I have myopia, left -8.00 , right -9.00 . Also, 0.5 astigmatism on both eyes. I am planning to wear air optix night & day aqua lenses. Can the doctor include the astigmatism in my lenses? Or he will add a little more myopia to compensate astigmatism?

Answers:

Yes, half the 0.50 astigmatism will be added to the sphere power, but that won't make any real difference in a power that high anyway.

Your - 8.00 becomes - 8.25, but then will become - 7.50 for mcontacts because of the vertex distance.

The -9.00 becomes - 9.25 , but then will be - 8.00 for contacts...maybe - 8.50

Most brands jump by 0.50 at a time after 6.00 , so there is no - 8.25 for instance.

Because the contacts that don't correct for astigmatism are cheaper, and you don't have very much astigmatism, at first, he might try -8.25 & -9.25. (I'm assuming the 0.50 is a -0.50). (the -0.50 astigmatism number means, for your left eye, you are -8.00 in one direction and -8.50 in the other, giving you a -8.25 would split the difference and might work for you.

Note: if the -8.00 & -9.00 are from your eyeglasses prescription, the contacts you get will be a little weaker than the listed numbers, because they are sitting directly on your eyes.
