I have myopia: Would not wearing my glasses often damage my eyes further?!

Question: I have myopia: Would not wearing my glasses often damage my eyes further?
I've had glasses for almost 3 years (since I was 15) and, the strength of them have had to be increased 3 odd times now.
I only wear my glasses to see the board at school, or to watch TV - but when I go shopping and such, I don't bother with it.
I understand that this may be straining my eyes - but would this damage them?

I also tend to spend 5-6 hours at one time on the computer (doing my studies) - would that be doing any worse to my eyes? I try to do the eye exercises - but it's not something that I think to do constantly.

Thanks in advance.

Answers:

If not wearing them was straining your eyes, you would know it, and you would wear them.

Not wearing them doesn't do any harm to your eyes. All glasses do is help you see better when you have them on, they can't make your eyes better or worse whether you wear them or not.

With the computer , just keep the monitor at arms length...and take frequent breaks just to look around the room to let your eyes refocus at distance for a couple of minutes at a time.

Eye exercises make no difference, so don't worry about forgetting them.

Hi , I was interested in your question. I have to tell you that both my parents noticed their eyesight deteriorate over time and had to wear glasses. They were considering laser surgery but were advised to try natural remedies first. They read an article called How To Restore Your Eyesight Without Surgery. They took the advice, did the recommended eye exercises and were delighted with the results. Neither of them wear glasses anymore! I can't say if it will work for you, but it's a fascinating read and teaches alot about how to look after your eyes. Apparently my parents experience is quite typical. You might like to give it a try aswell - it can't do any harm!

I wish you good luck.
