How can I convince my mom to buy me contacts?!

Question: How can I convince my mom to buy me contacts?
I tried to ask my mom several times to buy me contacts, but she wouldn't listen. I asked my dad if he would buy me contacts, but he said if it was ok with my mom. I hate wearing my glasses, and if i don't wear them, i won't be able to see anything, since i have really bad eyesight. Another thing is that my mom told me to wait until i finished middle school and buy me the contacts during the summer of 8th grade, but it's going to take FOREVER! No matter how much times i proved to my mom that im not immature and irresponsible, she still doesn't listen!! Plz help me! How can i convince her to buy me contacts? (P.S. I'm in 7th grade)

Hi , I was interested in your question. I have to tell you that both my parents noticed their eyesight deteriorate over time and had to wear glasses. They were considering laser surgery but were advised to try natural remedies first. They read an article called How To Restore Your Eyesight Without Surgery. They took the advice, did the recommended eye exercises and were delighted with the results. Neither of them wear glasses anymore! I can't say if it will work for you, but it's a fascinating read and teaches alot about how to look after your eyes. Apparently my parents experience is quite typical. You might like to give it a try aswell - it can't do any harm!

I wish you good luck.

Well, maybe your Mom is thinking about all the problems they had when contacts first came out, and they cost a lot more than glasses back then. but now they can be cheaper to wear than glasses. Maybe you need to gather up all the information you can find, like cost, care and stuff, and show them to mom and dad when you can get them to sit down together and listen to you. I bet between the two of them they will let you try them for a year, and see how you do. OK?

You've only got one more year of middle school. Suck it up.

break your glasses on accident and then say "you cant break contacts?!" :) haha

To be honest, I think a lot of people from your parent's generation grew up before contacts were commonplace; they think of contacts as a decadent and unnecessary extravagance. Thus, they precieve teenage girls constantly pestering for contacts (claiming they will just "die" if they don't have them) as whiny, spoiled and vain. The parents are thinking: I had to make it through childhood wearing thick, nerdy-looking glasses, and I am still alive, why can't you.

Keep in mind, your parents have probably heard all kinds of horrible stories about people really messing up their eyes from wearing contacts. (Probably doesn't happen all that often, but it is what people remember). Also they are supporting you, so you have limited influence, it isn't like you can get right in their face and say "you better get me contacts, or you're not gonna like it". Maybe they are struggling just to pay bills, keep the house from getting forclosed on, etc, and don't have a lot of extra money right now. I think the best you can do is be patient and maybe, if one of your mother's friends has a daughter who has contacts, maybe see if she will talk to your mother, maybe she will listen to another adult; no guarantees.

As for the answerer who suggested you deliberately bust your glasses, as an excuse to get contacts. If I had a daughter that did that, I would say, "if you are so clumsy you can't handle wearing glasses, you are certainly too clumsy to be wearing contacts. Come with me to the optician's and we'll get you fitted with a nice pair of heavy duty, industrial safety glasses that won't get broken so easily". I probably wouldn't be mean enough to actually do this, but the thought of it is kind of amusing!
