how do i get my prada eyeglasses fixed?!

Question: How do i get my prada eyeglasses fixed?
the spring inside the hinge on the right side that allows them to be flexible has broken and the ear part came off... i bought these several years ago from lenscrafter and went in today to see if they could be fixed and they said no, only if it were a screw... they don't carry the specific frame i have anymore either and i can't afford new glasses right now... what can i do to get them fixed? i have scotch tape holding it together right now so that i can at least drive..

Sorry, your only option is to hold them with scotch tape like you are doing or to superglue them together (which is only a temporary fix).

The spring breaking is just a bad spot because there really is nothing that can be done, like you have already found out from Lenscrafters. With those spring-loaded temples, you can only fix it by replacing the temple.

If it were a metal frame (but not titanium) it might have been able to be solder it together. If there was a screw in it, like they already told you, a new screw could replace.

Maybe you could call around to other opticals or check online to see if you can find anyone who still carries your frame or at least get temples for it. However, depending on how old your frames are, and especially since they are a major brand name like Prade, chances are they change the styles every few years and your frame is no longer being manufactured.

Sorry! You'll have to start saving for new glasses. And you know, they ARE cheaper if you don't go and buy Prada......

ADD:
If you can find replacement temples for it, then you should be able to go to any optical and have them fix it for you. Some may do it for free, some may charge you a small fee. Basically, you need the tools and the know-how to replace a spring-loaded temple.

Well you actually can get glasses pretty cheap if you go to some of the major chains such as Walmart, Lenscrafters, VisionSource, etc However, these are "plain-jane" glasses for the ones that are cheap so there is no anti-reflective coating, polished edge, scratch protectant and sometimes no rimless either. What you pay is what you get.

But of course, if your glasses prescriptions is expired (most expire after 2 years) you'll need to have a new eye exam before you can get new glasses.

You can probably get the frames for cheap again at www.replacementlensexpress.com. They usually match or beat any other price, so just send them the price that you paid the first time and see if they can't get them for you again! It's a great one-stop-shop if you need a tint or prescription lenses. The optician's e-mail is info@replacementlensexpress.com
