An eye exam for glasses is only about 50 bucks or so and your insurance may cover part or all of it. The exams for contacts are quite a bit more as they take longer and they need to do more tests and do more instructing to you about care/use of contacts, etc. I would suggest getting glasses at first, they are easier to deal with and usually cheaper than contacts. Don't worry about looking like a nerd, there are tons of cute girls frames and a lot of the boys think girls with glasses are cute, so it isn't like you will never get a date or anything like that. If you decide to get contacts later on, you can use the glasses for "emergencies" like if you run out of contacts. If you really want contacts from the begining, you can get them without getting glasses first, but they will probably try to convince you to get glasses too. This is because they are worried when people get contacts without having glasses, they often over-wear them and mess up their eyes.

Eye exams are sometimes free. When you go to your eye exam, mention that you want contacts. They'll give you a prescription, with which you'll go to a place that sells glasses and contacts, and then you can tell them what you want. Both glasses and contacts can be quite expensive, like $300+, but you can find cheaper ones as well.

if you go to a certain glasses center like sears, or check out what your insruance covers. its free the exam or like really cheap.
yes you can get contacts the first time. they cost about 30-40 dollars like the ones for acuvue for a 30 day pack, i think its for each eye tho so about 60-80 dollars. im not sure though.
you should check with your doctor and pharmacy :)
glasses are cute too tho.
