What are causing these extremely dark red spots on the left field of my vision?!

I was laying in bed and I noticed giant fuzzy spots on the left field of my vision, coming from my left eye. I brushed it off as spots I got from looking into my lamp for a second when I turned it on, but in a minute or two, the spots became bigger turned into an intense dark red color. It really freaked me out. As of several minutes later, (now) the spots are starting to gradually fade, but I'm still worried that it might be a precursor to blindness or something bad. Am I worrying too much?
