My prescription has changed. Has it changed much?!

Question: My prescription has changed. Has it changed much?
My eyes test from around summer 2008 gave the following results.

SPH CYL AXIS Near/Add Int./Add PD
Right Eye
-0.25 -1.00 180 None None None
Left Eye
+0.25 -2.25 170 None None None

I have just been to the optometrist today and my new prescription is written much differently. I am worrying that my sight worsened as I feel I need stronger glasses which even an optometrist confirmed. But how much they actually have changed since 2008?

Results from my eye test from today, 2011-01-28

SPH CYL AXIS Near/Add Int./Add PD
Right Eye
-2.00 +1.00 85 None None None
Left Eye
-3.00 +2.50 78 None None None

I would be very grateful, especially if anyone is an optometrist and can tell me why for example my axis has changed so much on my both eyes and why spheres and cylinders for left and right eye are literally turned upside down?

Answers:

That is just because they are written in 2 different forms. The second one was done by an ophthalmologist. They write the prescriptions with the + cylinder form.

Once it is converted to the minus cylinder form like the first one, it is very similar to your first prescription. The prescription is the same once it is converted. It is just 2 ways to say the same thing.

The 2nd one becomes :

- 1.00 - 1.00 X 175
- 0.50 - 2.50 X 168

So, there is still a reasonable change, but much less drastic than it looked before.
