Astigmatism............?!

Question: Astigmatism............?
Does it make a huge difference if you don't wear astigmatism contacts and you just wear farsighted or nearsighted ones? Also, people say that astigmatism is when everything is blurry near or far. To me if the object is near, I can see it pretty well, but my eye doctor says I have astigmatism. How is that possible?

Seeing it "pretty well " is the difference....that answers your own question. It's quite possible your close vision would be better than " pretty good " if you didn't have astigmatism.

You may not have very much astigmatism , we have no clue without seeing your prescription. Small amounts of astigmatism don't have to be, or can't be corrected with contacts usually.

About 80% of people who wear glasses/contacts have some astigmatism, it's nothing to worry about.

If you had enough astigmatism that it had to be corrected with contacts, but wasn't , you just wouldn't see well with your contacts on.

When you have a astigmatism you eye isn't shaped round the cornea is shaped more like an oblong. In most astigmatic eyes, the oblong or oval shape causes light rays to focus on two points in the back of your eye, rather than on just one. This is because, like a football, an astigmatic cornea has a steeper curve and a flatter one. So when you contacts not made for astigmatism your vision can become blurred because sometimes contacts move in your eyes causing your vision to be worse than without contacts. Contacts made for astigmatism have special designs for your eyes. I have astigmatism myself and the contacts i wear are thin on top and bottom so they stay in place. You might just have a mild case of astigmatism and not notice the difference, my eyes aren't that bad either but i do notice my eyes get very sore without my contacts and i get huge headaches. i hope this helps
