Does calcium help you grow?!

Question: Does calcium help you grow?
I'm almost 15 and i'm 5'1" (i have to look up just to see my friends!). My mom is fairly short (I'm taller than her) and my dad is "average." Everyone says to drink milk so that the calcium will help you grow taller. I have some stomach problems with milk, so i need alternatives. Right now i try to drink two glasses of the tropicana no pulp calcium+vitamin d a day. Will this help me grow taller? What else can I do to grow taller? What shouldn't I do? What can stunt my growth? I would like scientific/medical answers please.

You could try goat milk. Also, soy milk is a source of calcium to people who are lactose-intolerant, which I think you are. You could also run, or do exercise. Vitamin D is very important, because it is the main factor which helps you absorb calcium. I had a vitamin D deficiency, which led to the breaking of my ankle. Therefore, my doctor prescribed vitamin D pills. The sun is a good way to get vitamin D. If you spend time outdoors, you will get vitamin D, and you will absorb calcium. I think some vegetables have calcium, too. Hope I helped!

Calcium will not help you grow taller. Nothing you can eat /drink will make you taller , its about genetics and as you say your mum and dad aren't that tall. If you are extremely short a doctor will sometimes persribe growth hormone to help but that is for very extreme cases and I believe it can have problems. What calcium does is to give you strong bones. It is critical you build your bones now as when you are quite young your bones stop building and how strong they are makes a difference to whether you get osteoporosis in later life.

I am 13 and I am 5'5" I am a boy it is probably in your jeans that you will naturally be short for your whole life. My dad is 6'6" and I will be around there. My sister eats a lot of Yogurt and she grew like 1.5 inches in 2 weeks so try that! Hope it works and by the way my sister is 16.

Yes. Calcium helps your bones grow. If you don't want to drink milk, there are many non-dairy sources of calcium.

Well drinking milk will certainly strengthen your bones, but height is one of those predetermined factors. Look at the heights of your parents and siblings. You will average around that.
