Can I get my glasses prescriptions filled anywhere...where's the cheapest?!

Question: Can I get my glasses prescriptions filled anywhere...where's the cheapest?
I wanted to order a pair of ray bans or something and have them filled somewhere else because he charges a lot to fill the kind of lenses I need. Can I go to walmart or Costco or any place of that sort to get the prescription filled cheaper? Or is that not very reliable? I know pla es online give refills to glasses but how can I make sure they're trustworthy?

Answers:

Basically it all boils down to the individual making the glasses, or doing a final inspection on them. You could have a good optician working at Walmart, but I do feel that due to the cheap price you do get lesser quality product to make it that cheap. In today's world, you definitely get what you pay for. At least get a price from the place you got your prescription, including any type of warranty available and specific material of the lenses. Then try as best as possible to compare apples to apples to see if what Walmart, or any other place, is giving you is comparable in quality and warranty, including service after the sale. Local optical shops have to conform to state regulations, where on-line places may be harder to verify the integrity of the glasses.

One site you can check out is www.replacementlensexpress.com. They are based in the states but ship all over the world. They have a very extensive selection of lenses, which start at $25. I find that if you go for the cheapo sites like zenni or elsewhere where they only cost $8 or so, then you really get a cheap product and the customer service sucks.

They don't show their frames online (well they show two lines - Ray-Ban and Sama Eyewear) but they can really get you whatever you want. All you need to do is e-mail their optician at info@replacementlensexpress.com and ask to give you a price quote. Or if you already have frames that you want to keep, just send in your frames and have them pop in your new lenses.

Walmart can fit lenses cheaply. But if they are expensive frames or lenses I would personally shop around local optic stores orptomitrist offices to find a good deal. That way you can be sure that you get good quality.
