Do I need a Perscription for my eyes?!

Question: Do I need a Perscription for my eyes?
I went to the eye doctor yesterday and he told me that i'm far sighted and have astigmatism, but he didn't write me a prescription ,he just said my eyes take longer to focus. When I called a friend of mine and told her, she told me that her eye doctor told her she had the same exact thing but he did write her a perscription, she wears contacts all the time! Should I have a perscription????

Answers:

any eye doctor should give you a perscription if you've had an eye test. You could get this from him by asking. However given what he said its likely your perscription is so mild that its not worth your having glasses so he hasn't bothered. Now your friend probably has a lot stronger perscription - astigmatism varies wildly in how bad it is. If you're not having problems seeing anything and your eyes don't feel strained then leave it alone and be grateful you don't need glasses. If at any point you feel your eyes are strained or you have problems seeing anything get a new test as your perscription may have changed and tehn teh advice will change.

The fact that he didn't write you a prescription means that you don't need glasses at this point in life. You can have a prescription but not need glasses if it doesn't affect your vision. He would only give you glasses if you said you were struggling with near work. In the future if this gives you problems you may require glasses but at the moment as you have no symptoms you don't need them. hope this helps
