Question: If contact lenses can be tiny then why spectacle lenses for high myopic are thick and heavy?
Understand that contact lenses are worn over the eyeball itself and spectacle lenses are bit away from eye ball.With new technology the spectacle lenses also can be made thin like contact lenses.

With a minus lens, the size of the blank is irrelevant. What matters is the eye size of the spectacles. A contact lens is also much thinner in the center than a spectacle lens.

Spectacle lenses for high myopes are thin in the middle and thick at the edges. If you wanted glasses that were only as large as contact lenses (~14mm) they'd be a lot thinner, but you wouldn't be able to see very much out of them.
