my daughter has been using the grapgite lead from her pencil as an eyeliner?!

Question: My daughter has been using the grapgite lead from her pencil as an eyeliner?
have a rule in my house about no makeup for my 13year old daughter because she has been caught stealing makeup in the past, any way long story short I just found out that she has been using the pencil to line her eyes with. What are some side effects of this? Any suggestion's on how to convince her that this is a bad thing.

Ouch!

The lead in "lead" pencils is indeed graphite, not really lead, so she's not going to go nuts all of a sudden from lead poisoning -- don't worry there. But the graphite flakes, could easily lodge in her eyes; she could do some real damage accidentally poking herself in the eye with it.

My suggestion: Buy her a nice, soft eyeliner, or even a liquid one. Sit her down, display the new eyeliner, and say, "OK. Obviously, you want to wear makeup, because you're using a regular pencil as eyeliner. And, of course, you know I don't want you to wear makeup yet. But I don't want to see you hurting yourself, either. So here's the deal: Here's some real eyeliner. Once I hand it over to you, it's yours. But I'll tell you what, I don't ever want to see you, or hear of you, using it in anything but a responsible manner. If you do not look like an attractive girl, and my opinion is the only one that counts in that regard, when you leave this house, you will no longer be using this eyeliner, and furthermore, there will be no further discussion of you using any kind of makeup.

"But...if, and I mean IF, I see you using it tastefully and responsibly over the next six months, I will consider your next request for makeup. I will consider it. Do you understand what that means? Good. We will discuss it at that time. Remember, you will have a much better chance at increasing your makeup use if I see you using this well, and if I get no argument from you about it, for the next six months. Are we absolutely clear on all of this? OK, I'm marking the calendar. Here you go."

Advise her that you will continue to buy her makeup, in whatever reasonable way you work out, until she has a job and can buy her own, but as long as she lives in your house, you have final say on whether she looks like a nice girl. And the first time you hear that she has gone to school and made herself up like a hooker, she's grounded until she's 37 years old. ; )

Then keep your word.

That's my advice! Good luck!

Graphite lead is usually harmless when applied to the skin in infrequent, small doses, but even so if she's using it near the eyes it could cause some irritation. I think the best thing to do is to buy her her own makeup bag complete with eyeliner etc..., nothing fancy, just something to keep her away from the pencils, and of course to remove the need to steal any more cosmetics.

School and friends doing stupid things with their bodies

It doesn't sound healthy to me, but if she hasn't seen side effects already, I doubt she will in the future. Maybe if you taught her the proper way to apply eyeliner without looking like a raccoon and let her wear it appropriately, she wouldn't feel the need to find outside sources of makeup.

Yea, she'll probally end up blind. Just let her wear like lip gloss, and if she's stubbon on eyeliner, let her wear it and she'll learn the hard way why 13yr olds don't wear makeup!!

well, let me just say. that she is probably going to have some serious eye problems and thats just plain stupid on what she is doing. she must not be very smart if you ask me...

Ew.
You have a messed up daughter.
