why are my eyes bloodshot from my contacts?!

Question: Why are my eyes bloodshot from my contacts?
I've been having problems with my eyes since like the beginning of December. First my eyes became bloodshot when wearing my contacts, so I went to my eye doctor and she gave me Acuvue Oasys contacts to try. I tried them and a few days later I developed a corneal ulcer in my left eye. Went to the doctor, got eye drops, stopped wearing my contacts for 2 weeks. When the 2 weeks were up I got a new pair of Acuvue Oasys contacts to try again. My eyes seemed a lot better so i went and ordered a box. I've been wearing the contacts from the new box for about 2 weeks now. My eyes have been fine.

But Saturday night I went out with my boyfriend and his dad and stepmom. His dad and stepmom both smoke. We were also at a casino where there is obviously a lot of smoke. I went to the bathroom, looked in the mirror, and my eyes were completely bloodshot again. Now my eyes are still red (i wore my contacts yesterday because my eyes seemed to be better) and they hurt. I'm starting to think that it's smoke that irritates them, but the first time this happened I wasn't around smoke like that.

I've been to my doctor about this, and clearly she didn't offer the right solution. I don't have the time to keep going back. She said I'm not getting enough moisture in my eyes which is why she gave me the Acuvue Oasys. She said it could be because of the weather. So should I just leave my contacts out for a while and see what happens once spring comes? And has anyone else had this problem? what did you do about it?

side note: i take really good care of my contacts...I take them out every night, refill with solution everyday, wash my hands before handling them...so I think it's unlikely that it's something I'm doing wrong

Consider changing your contact case - about every month. The case is a breading ground for bacteria. Some studies have actually shown that the case has more bacteria than a door handle. Gross.

Also consider the solution. By a name brand solution (not walmart brand - the composition of walmart's solution is not constant) I recommend clear care.

Also make sure 1) your not wearing them too long (bacteria can slip under the contact and get trapped between your eye and the lens), 2) replacing them as directed

I hope that helps

Corneal ulcer eh? I think you wore them too soon after that. Don't wear them for one whole month and then see what happens.
Also look into changing your solution to a different brand. Maybe your eyes are allergic to an ingredient in your current solution. If the solution contains thimerosal you might want to avoid it as many people's eyes are sensitive to that.
