People who have bad eyesight (need glasses) have better hearing?!

Question: People who have bad eyesight (need glasses) have better hearing?
Is this possible? I remember hearing somewhere if one's eyesight is bad the human
body compensates but improving one's hearing so it is above-par from average?

Myth?

Answers:

I think its complete myth. Certainly for those who wear glasses. None of my other senses are better. However i always compensate for my poor vision. If you are actually blind or don't compensate then you are going to rely on your other senses more. That doesn't mean they are better it just means that your brain concentrates on processing information from those souces rather than sight. bit like you strain to listen if you are somewhere dark alone and you are nervous.

I dont know if there is any truth or not, agree with other posters, the other senses compensate. I know that my hearing is OK, and my eyesight is really bad, (shortsighted, greater than -7.) I do rely on hearing and touch a lot, esp if I dont have glasses or contacts on, then I cant see anything.

This is a myth, I have two cousins who wear eyeglasses both around -5.00 that also have poor hearing that requires hearing aids. I will say that if a person loses a sense such as sight, then the other senses may attempt to compensate for the loss. A person who loses their sense of hearing may be more perceptive and observant to compensate for not being able to hear.

not only hearing. the body make a sense stronger it can either be hearing, touch, smell and taste but the change is minor so you wont tell the difference untill u loose one completly. like this kid that became blind at 3 at walks by sound waves. a man close to his 50 is blind and is a good food tester and can tell u the ingredients etc..

the eyesight is converted to hearing ability
