hiya
rest assured my answer is based on me being an optometrist / optician so its a serious answer
okay so i think you may mean red lines around the iris (which is the coloured part of your eye and not the pupil)
if so it should be fine the pressure from coughing sometimes forces the smaller blood vessels on the outer eye to dilate and get bigger a little making them more red and hence the perception the eye is more red. so try not to squeeze your eyes when you cough. the front of your eye is the cornea which is transparent and that is avascular- meaning that it wont allow bood veseels to grow into it so the blood vessels make like a circular pattern around the eye.
having said that be careful as a cough brings out bacteria from our bodies and sometimes that may cause an infection in our eyes so keep on top of hygiene so basiclaly wash your hands as much as you can after sneezing and in the morning and evenings use soap on the eyelid margin (whilst the eyes are closed) and rinse eyes in luke warm water this should rid of any harmful bacteria.
if the redness is still there after your coughing has gone then you should go to an optician.
but make sure you do not have 3 things
your vision should not have decreased
you eye should not be very red
your eye should not be in pain.
i hope this has helped

You must have the pink eye. Obviously your eye is irritated so quit bothering it. This could be another reason. There's plenty of reasons. By the way, when you open eyelids apart, you'll notice redness and red lines --its normal, nothing unusual. Quit being a wimp.
