Could it be bad for the eyes to have a dark screen?!

Question: Could it be bad for the eyes to have a dark screen?
A long time ago I turned my brightness from 100 down to 25. I figured the darker it is, the better for my eyes. I don't have a problem seeing anything on it, but do you think it could be subtly hurting my eyes that it's too dark?

It could be if your viewing it at night, it will cause the pupils to over dilate which puts a strain on the mussles which could lead to your eyes not responding to bright or dim light as well. For a well lit room,it should be fine. But at night turn it up to about 50% - 75%. Hope this helps!

asked my my eye doctor last visit about something very simmiler

No. the brightness of your screen one way or another can't damage your eyesight permanently. It does make a big difference to eyestrain though and turning it down as far as is comfortable is a good idea to reduce eyestrain.
