pale orange patch found on eye scan?!

my mum just went for her usual eye check-up and they have found something a little unusual. on the bright orange surface behind the eye that comes up in the scan, they found a patch that was a paler orange instead of a bright orange. my mum is 54 so they have told her it could be an age-related pigment issue. but they sent her to a clinic nevertheless and she is quite worried.

does anyone know what this could be??
