What can I do for my double vision?!

Question: What can I do for my double vision?
A few years ago I went to an ophthalmologist because I was was having a hard time seeing because my eyes hurt and I was getting really dizzy whenever I read. He said that my eyes were misaligned and I got glasses with prisms and they helped me. I was getting dizzy alot less and I stopped wearing glasses for about 2 years, but a few months ago I started having problems again and got a new prescription from a different eye doctor. They helped the first few weeks I had them, but then I started seeing double with and without my glasses on which gives me headaches and I get really dizzy. The past week or so has been the worst it's ever been, and I've been having trouble walking in a straight line because my vision makes me so dizzy. I've also had like eye spasms off and on where my eyes kind of flicker when I'm focusing on something. I plan on going back to an eye doctor, but is there anything I can do on my own to stop feeling like this? :/

Answers:

You should definitely see an optometrist or ophthalmologist.

But one quick test you can do. Cover up one eye and see if you're still seeing double. If covering up one eye gets rid of the double vision, you have an alignment problem. If you still see double in only one eye, then there's probably something more serious going on.

Definitely go see an optometrist to see what's going on.

I would see a neuro-ophthalmologist. He or she is a specialist M.D in double vision for adults. Either that or a Strabismus specialist who is also a specialst.

My father is an ophthalmologist

You can close one eye or wear an eye patch - it won't be double then.

But you need to see your eye doctor to find out why it has got worse and what is causing it
