Am I considered legally blind? Do I qualify for a service dog under ADA?!

Question: Am I considered legally blind? Do I qualify for a service dog under ADA?
My vision is -11.5 and -13.5, but I wear high prescription contacts that almost completely correct my vision so I function normally.

To be legally blind, your CORRECTED vision must be worse than 20/200 in the better eye or you have a field of view of less than 20 degrees (even if vision is clear). So, you are NOT legally blind. This seems to cause a lot of confusion, to clarify, it doesn't matter how bad your UN-corrected vision is, if they can correct you to better than 20/200, you are NOT legally blind).

PS: If you can see nearly 20/20 with contacts, why would you want a guide dog when there are people who truely can't see who really do need them. (I suppose you could just get a regular dog and pretend it is guiding you when you walk it, if that would make you happy). If it is just for those times when you don't have your contacts in, like midnight bathroom expeditions, etc, get some glasses.

No, you are not considered legally blind and do not qualify for a service dog. As others have said, you have to have vision no greater than 20/200 in your better eye WITH correction or no more that 20 deg of vision.

When you said you function normally, you answered your own question. To qualify for a service dog of any kind, you must have a physical, medical, or psychological condition that significantly negatively impacts one or more major life activity.

I am disabled and have a service dog.

No. If your vision is almost normal when you wear your glasses or contacts then you are not legally blind and do not qualify nor need a dog.

Legal blindness is 20/200 vision or worse when wearing glasses.

no. Legally blind by definition is when vision cannot be corrected.

No. You have bad eyesight, but it is mainly correctable. To be legally blind, you need to be 200/20 aided.
