what should I use, paper vs computer?!

Question: What should I use, paper vs computer?
I have these PDF's on my computer that I got free, but i could also buy the same things in paper.
I know that computers damage your eyes from long use, they also use energy (which you pay for)
books wear out over time, but you won't have to worry about your battery dying or wtv.

I have to use these PDF's to study my language, but i'm wondering if it's worth the investment to buy the books. (which will be under $200 for all of them, maybe) also, I'm not paying any bills yet, but I don't have a real income. (still a student) what do you think? btw, this screen is killing my eyes :/

Answers:

Firstly computers don't damage your eyes permanently. You can get eye strain from them though.
Books can be easier to study from as its easier to flip pages and find things and you are less likely to get eye strain.

If I were you I'd try using the PDF's for a while and see if I did get eye strain badly. Eye strain is only temporary so if you do get it just rest yoru eyes a bit. Follow all the advice on answers for avoiding eye strain. it depends a bit how you use the books whether it'll be easier on a screen and whether you'll get eye strain.

It is a myth that computers damage your eyes - if they did all computer professionals would have eyesight problems and be suign teh people they work for.

lower the screen brightness and contrast, maybe it is too much it is bad for your eyes. if you don't know how to lower it, Google it it's simple. Plus, paper wastes trees :) and it is much messier, computer is more neat, and it is all there you don't have to worry.

Computers don't damage your eyes. The cost of energy needed to print and distribute the books likely exceeds the cost of electricity to run your computer.

I'm an optometrist

Wear shades or dim ur computer light bro.

Can you print at least some of the PDF's particularly when your eyes are bothering you?

Computer screens do not damage your eyes at all. Some people get eye strain from focusing so close for long periods of time, but the same thing happens when reading on paper. If the brightness is bothering you, you can turn down the brightness, wear sunglasses, or turn on more lights in the room (so your pupils constrict and block out more light). Do not worry about your eyes hurting. It is not going to cause any long term damage - that is a myth. IF its really bothering you, you can get some low powered reading glasses from a pharmacy (very cheap and you don't need a prescription) which allow your eyes to relax some since the glasses do some of the focusing work for your eyes. Don't waste the money and trees on paper. The electricity it costs to read this stuff on the computer is nowhere near what it would cost you to print these PDFs out.

A macbook will not solve your problem. First, apple is an evil company. Second, it still has an illuminated screen that your eyes will have to focus on, which will still cause eye strain. As magical as apple wants you to think all of its products are, there is nothing magical about the macbook that will help your eyes.
