Will this cause me to go blind/cause serious eye problems?!

Question: Will this cause me to go blind/cause serious eye problems?
I use contacts that you have to replace after using it for a total of 31 days. I keep them in non-stop each month (even sleeping) and replace them on the first of each month. Is this bad and will it cause any problems later on?

I honestly have no idea. I don't think it will damage your vision in that sense since the prescriptions are current, but I imagine that at least once a month or more your eyes catch particles or germs that your secretions kill, but with contacts in, that don't get taken out & cleaned, they get stuck to them & stay in your eye for the month. I would think that part would damage your eye's health.

It kind of depends. There are contacts that are FDA approved to be kept in for up to 1 month non-stop (like Focus Night and Day), so in theory, because these contacts allow more oxygen to get to the eye, they aren't a danger like older contacts have been. Of course, over the month, protein builds up on the contact, which is why doctors often recommend that you take them out regardless of them being FDA approved for continuous wear.

Now, I am blind in one eye, and I require vision correction for my other eye. Of course when these lenses came out, my doctor wanted me to get them but explicitly told me not to wear them overnight despite the fact that it's FDA approved just to add extra protection since I only have the one eye. I disregarded it, and didn't have any vision problems. However, in time, the contact lens can actually start to reshape the lens of your eye and potentially make contacts uncomfortable (I wear glasses almost always now because contacts started hurting too much).

However, I think this could be a potential rare side effect. I don't know if any long term research has been done, but so long as you are using the ones designed for overnight wear, you should be ok.

If you are wearing ones not designed for overnight wear, you are in a much greater danger because you are cutting off the oxygen to your eye, and that may cause problems.

Hope this information helps.

That is really bad. Especially if you have an older model of contact lenses. Your eyes are at risk for oxygen deprivation (hypoxia) and infection. You are seriously risking your vision, and I would recommend not wearing contacts for a little while and then wearing them but taking them out EVERY NIGHT.

yeah, it's probably not going to be very good for your eyes.
Dirt is sure to accumulate inside and you might get a serious eye infection.
you should clean it often...
