Need some encouragement for contacts..?!

Question: Need some encouragement for contacts..?
Okay, so.. my Mom asked me today if I wanted to get contacts this weekend, so she could book an eye appointment. I've been wanting contacts forever, and had glasses for about 3-5 years now. I'm 14, also- but I'm extremely scared for contacts! Could someone who has contacts say something that could make me feel better, and not be worried? And also, do the eye doctors put the contacts in for you at the eye doctors, or let you? Thank you so much! Oh, and do they hurt?

Happy Valentines Day !

I generally insert the lenses the first time for patients. It gets them in faster so I can evaluate the fit and the quality of vision very quickly. I feel like it gives patients an opportunity to see how well they can see with contact lenses before they struggle with putting them in themselves. Removing lenses is generally easier than inserting them so if the lenses are in already, removal is the first thing my technician teaches. Once in a while I have patients request to put the lenses in themselves. I generally allow this.

Contacts is a learned thing, just like anything else. They take some practice to get used to, but, for me, the rewards are totally worth it. I've worn glasses since I was in the first grade and contacts since the ninth grade, and I'm 30 now. The optician may put the contacts in for you the first time to check your vision, but then she or he will probably have you practice putting them in and taking them out before you leave the office. Just relax and realize that no one likes touching the eye, and that before long, you won't think twice about it. As long as your contacts are the right size and don't have anything on them (like hair or lint), you shouldn't feel them at all. Good luck!

Hi

Ive had contacts since I was 13 and Im now 34. It was honestly like a miracle the first time I wore them outside lol. I was delighted and its amazing to see everything so clearly, I couldnt do without them.

The optician will help teach you to put the lenses in and how long you should wear them for. Usually to begin with its a few hours a day then you keep increasing the time until your eyes get used to them.

I forget I have them in now and its just a natural part of me getting dressed in the morning, take the specs off and put the lenses in. Its like brushing your teeth its just a habit now.

Follow the instructions that they give you and always make sure you clean them properly, unless of course you are getting daily lenses which wont matter.

Hope that helps and you will honestly love being able to see EVERYTHING

The eye doctors office should have someone show you how to insert and remove them before sending you home with the contacts. If you have any problems with the lens the doctor will correct it with you follow up appointment. The contacts should be comfortable to wear, at first it will be weird like you have an eyelash in your eye but that will go away after 5 min

Just got contacts an hour ago, and there green (: They teach you how, and you try putting them in there. Nothing to be worried about.

I had contacts at 13 and they are the best thing that has ever happened to me and that was 40 years ago. There is no need to be scared. Contacts used to hurt when you first had them but modern contacts do. You will be aware of them at first but that is all. What you will immediately realize is how brilliant your eyesigh tis and what a gift it is.

The eye doctor will put in contacts for you the first time. they measure your eye , give you another eye test and try trial contacts in your eyes. Then they look in your eyes with a microscope to check tehy are fitting properly. Normally someone then shows you hwo to take them in and out and you get sent away with some trial lenses. Don't worry if you find taking them in/out hard at first . Most people take about a month to get really good at it. It is like riding a bike . Thing to do is relax.

Don't be frightened . they are wonderful Any problems and you can ask teh eye doctor, there are loads of tips on answers, and loads of posters who use lenses and can answer questions for you. Welcome to the land of contact users!
